NO.02 NEWSLETTER

WATER MILL PRIMARY SCHOOL 05-10-2009

Dear Parents/Carers,

DROP IN SESSION

A reminder that the drop in session is now Thursday morning from 9:05 to 9:30 a.m. This is an opportunity for you to discuss progress or raise minor concerns with your child’s teacher when your child is not present. All major concerns should obviously be discussed immediately by contacting the Head Teacher.

We were pleased to see so many people at Parents Evening last week.

PARENTS BOARD

Many of you already check the outdoor information boards but we have also added a white board close to the hall door for reminders and further information when needed.

PLEASE STILL CHECK YOU CHILD’S BOOKBAG EVERY NIGHT FOR NEWSLETTERS OR OTHER INFORMATION.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

Mrs. Flanagan and Mr. Bates supervise children in the school playground from 8:45 a.m. Children must not arrive before that time unless accompanied by an adult. For those new to our school accompanied children should stand with their parents at the gate end of the playground and unaccompanied children go to the far end to make safe supervision easier.

TOYS

We recommend children do not bring toys but appreciate that it can provide a sense of security for the little ones. Please limit this to one small pocket sized toy without sharp points and certainly not in the shape of a gun!

SAREHOLE MILL VISIT

On Friday Year 6 visited Sarehole Mill and were complimented on their knowledge and behaviour by the museum staff. They were a pleasure to take out.

PROSPECTUS

All families receive a copy of our prospectus on entry. It is also online at www.watermill.bham.sch.uk. Currently it is being updated but the sections on uniform, personal belongings, jewellery and hair styles will not change. Please help your child to conform to our school rules.

PARKING

The Police inform me that the yellow markings outside the gates mean that the area should not be used for one hour before or after start and finish of school times – so if you park there it is very much at your own risk! It also causes a risk to the safety of our children on their way in and out of school. The parking problem continues to worsen and damages relationships with our neighbours. Please park at the far end of the Close or on Reservoir Road and walk with your child down to school. It is especially dangerous to park on the footpath as this forces people with prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs into the road.

SCHOOL DINNER PRICES

The cost of a school dinner has risen to £1.75 per day, £8.75 per week from 1st September. Money should be brought into school by your child in a sealed, named envelope on the first day of the school week. Dinners MUST be paid for in advance. Arrears can quickly accumulate and school dinners must then be withdrawn.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Our Harvest Festival is on Thursday 22nd October at 9:15 a.m. This will be led by Year 2 and everyone is welcome. We hope to have our usual lovely selection of flowers, fruit and vegetables, which we will donate to St. Marys Hospice. We also hope to support ‘Feed the Children – Feeding Minds’. More information about this will be given to our KS2 children later this week.

There will be a collection on the day for our visitors which we will donate to Edward’s Trust.

SATS MEETING

This Thursday 8th October there will be a SATS Meeting from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the school library. This is mainly for parents/carers of children in Years 2 and 6 but all are welcome. Please book with Mrs. Dyson, School Secretary.
