NO.01 NEWSLETTER

WATER MILL PRIMARY SCHOOL 09-09-2009

Dear Parents/Carers,

WELCOME

A warm welcome to all newcomers to the school and also welcome back to all our families, we hope that you have had an enjoyable holiday and are looking forward to a new term.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

We are distributing new school uniform as soon as possible, if you need to replace any of your child’s uniform please call into the office.

Order forms for the school coat are attached and should be returned by Friday 18th September, payment must accompany the order. We will be placing the order early the following week and we have been told that delivery will be before half term.

PE UNIFORM

Please make sure that your child’s PE kit, including pumps and trainers, still fit. If you are replacing please remember your child needs dark blue/black shorts a dark colour track suit and a white tee shirt. Football tops are not suitable.

PE KIT MUST BE IN SCHOOL EVERY DAY. PE bags are available to buy in school at a cost of £3.00.

ALL ITEMS OF SCHOOL UNIFORM MUST BE NAMED.

SCHOOL DINNER PRICES

The cost of a school dinner has risen to £1.75 per day, £8.75 per week from 1st September. Money should be brought into school by your child in a sealed, named envelope on the first day of the school week. Dinners MUST be paid for in advance. Arrears can quickly accumulate and school dinners must then be withdrawn. If you would like to pay for the entire term or half term the costs will be £61.25 for the first half term and £59.00 for the second half term. For the full term up until Christmas the cost will be £120.75. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Education Catering’.

The new menus will be put on the outside boards and you will see that children have a wide choice of food and are often offered second helpings. Younger children are helped to select their meals and we ensure that all children have a balanced meal.

DROP IN SESSIONS

Please note a change from Tuesday afternoons to Thursday mornings. If you have any minor concerns which you would like to discuss with your child’s teacher he or she will be available from 9:05 to 9:30 a.m. each Thursday morning. If possible ring to let us know that you are coming in. All teachers are available for a short time after school but must first make sure that all the children in their care are collected. Please do not approach staff first thing in the morning as children need to be taken into class. Anything major should be raised through the school office.

DIABETES/BALFOUR BEATTY PROJECT

Year 5 are working this term with an artist to produce educational material for the NHS based around diabetes awareness, as it is the fastest growing childhood disease. This is financed by the Balfour Beatty Nourish Project. A photographic consent form is attached for Year 5 children which MUST be returned by Tuesday 15th September.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT

These facilities are greatly enjoyed by our pupils during lunch and break times. Due to Health & Safety considerations they should not be used either before or after school or by younger children while waiting for their older siblings.

HOMEWORK

Homework books for KS2 have not yet arrived but will be distributed upon arrival.

All children benefit from reading for about 20 minutes each evening.

School books must be in a school book bag, children may not take them home in their own bags.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB

Families who have booked places at After School Club for this term and paid for those places have now had their reservations confirmed. We have a legal limit for the number of children who can be admitted and so it is unlikely that there will be many ‘casual’ places available this term, however in emergency cases we will always try to help.

CONTACT FORMS

Within the next day or so a copy of all the contact information we hold on file for your child will be sent to you. Please check and make any amendments necessary and return to school straight away. It is ESSENTIAL that we hold correct updated contact numbers in case of emergencies.
