NO. 02           NEWSLETTER    WATER MILL PRIMARY SCHOOL          01-10-2010

Dear Parents/Carers,

YEAR SIX PREFERENCE FORMS

Today 1st October is the last day to put in your application.

Forms will collected soon after 9:00 a.m. on Monday.  Parents who have not returned them should now either apply online or send the form immediately to the Local Authority at the address shown on the form.  If you have not expressed a preference your child will be allocated a place at random, which may be at the other side of the city, after all preferences have been met.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

PE – All kit should be in school every day.  All items must be named.  The weather is getting chilly and children must have a dark, plain tracksuit in their PE kit.

School shoes should be plain in colour and have a fastening if possible.  Ballet shoes or pumps are not suitable in winter (pumps are for PE or indoor use only) and it is preferable for children who come to school in boots to have shoes to change into.

DROP IN SESSIONS

As swimming has moved to Thursday morning we have had to move the Drop In to 9:10 till 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

CHARITIES

Thank you to all the parents who supported The Macmillan Coffee Morning and the Friends of the School who organised it.  £71.00 was raised for this very worthwhile cause.

Jeans for Genes Day – today we raised an overwhelming £154.00 for this charity, thank you to all who took part.

The children re-cycled their own jeans into a variety of craft projects which will be displayed around the school.

BOOK WEEK

Next week is National Book Week so we are inviting the children to come to school next Friday 8th October dressed as one of their favourite characters.  Please remember they will be wearing the costume all day including at lunch time and characters such as The Little Mermaid may find movement difficult!

FAMILY WITHIN SCHOOL

We encourage the children to play together and older children to help our younger ones when appropriate.  However, if new entrants to school stay entirely with their siblings they do not learn to mix with their own classmates or develop independence.  It can also be hard for older children to be told, ‘Look after your brother/sister’.  For this reason we prefer groups of children to mix share and enjoy their playtimes in a variety of ways.  We always have sufficient adults to care for them and to sort out any problems as well as teaching them new games and co-operation.

VACANCIES

We currently have a vacancy for a Lunchtime Supervisor to work in the playground for 6.25 hours per week during term time.  Interested parties (parents, grandparents, neighbours, friends) should apply via the Local Authority Handling Unit on 0121 464 6488 or email CSRecruitment@birmingham.gov.uk job reference ES1177UK.
