Dear Parents/Carers,

Our Harvest Festival is on Thursday 22nd October at 9:15 a.m. This will be led by Year 2 and everyone is welcome.

Please bring your donations of fruit, vegetables and flowers on Wednesday 21st October if possible, although we can still accept them on Thursday 22nd October but as early as possible.

KS2 children (who all love interesting stationery) are asked to donate new pens, pencils, notebooks, coloured paper for us to donate to ‘Feed the Children Feeding Minds’.

If possible these could be sent as a small individual pack but all items will be welcomed by schools without resources. These should come into school from Monday onwards.

There will be a collection on the day for our visitors which we will donate to Edward’s Trust.

We are celebrating National Book Week a few days late! We thought it would be ideal to enjoy extending everyone’s reading alongside out annual book fair. This will be taking place next week please look on the Parents Board for details. It will be open after the Harvest Festival for anyone who would like to get early Christmas presents without the children knowing! As usual we will also open after school.

Every child in our Reception Class received a free book earlier in the term. All children in the rest of the school will be given a free book donated to the school by literary organisations.

We hope the children enjoy their half term reading.

Those of you who ordered your child a school coat should have received it last night. PLEASE NAME IT NOW!

Our first aid trained staff are happy to administer prescribed medication to your child but you must come into school to fill in a medication form. All medication must be in their original packaging including the dispensing label. Please note it is only medicines which require to be given 4 times or more daily as any less can be administered outside school hours.

We were pleased to see a good turn-out for our SATS Meeting last Thursday and hope that parents feel reassured that while we expect high standards, we are also aware and try to avoid potential stress for the children.

Thursday 15th October in the school library from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. This will explain the Early Reading Research Project, Group Reading and our wider reading policies. All are welcome to attend but please note that this meeting is for adults only and we have no supervision available for children. Please book with Mrs. Dyson, School Secretary.

If you would like a poster to display at your place of work, social club or anywhere else please contact school next week.

A big thank you for Jenny and Susan from Harborne Allotment Society, who have been working with groups of our children since the spring to produce flowers, fruit and vegetables. Some of these will be on show at the Harvest Festival. This week they will be helping the children to replant the seating planters in the playground. We are sure that you will agree that the summer bedding brightened up the entrance to the school and has helped the children to learn about plant life and gardening.

If you child forgets swimming and we are unable to contact you we will lend them a school kit. If a child is fit for school they are fit to swim unless taking antibiotics for an infection.

Please do not send your child with deodorants, toiletries or aerosols of any kind.

Creams for eczema or similar must be handed to Mrs. Hoye with an explanatory note.

ALL children require a school book bag. This should be used to take home school reading books and homework. It is not suitable for carrying drinks for clothing. Every child should be taking home at least one book each night and these the protection of the school book bag not the latest trendy rucksack.
