  • Snow Closure

Fri 10 Mar 2023 Mrs Rudd

School will be closed to staff and pupils today due to dangerous road conditions.

  • Rebuilding our Community Charity Week

Thu 13 May 2021 Mrs Rudd

As a school, we believe we have a responsibility to contribute to our wider community as well as inspiring our children to be ‘Active Citizens’. In light of Covid 19, this is needed more now than ever.

Throughout this term, we will be running a project called ‘Rebuilding our Community’ where children across the school will fundraise for a local charity, develop their understanding of how to have a positive impact in a community and then complete ‘Acts of Kindness’ to improve the lives of those around us.

For example, Year 6 are getting a little excited and possibly over-ambitious. Their class charity will be ‘The Birmingham Children’s Hospital’. They plan to record and release a charity single!

They will also be carrying out a range of community service type acts, from singing the song outside the local care home to brighten the residents’ day (Covid restrictions dependant) to offering to clear local residents’ front gardens, they will be exploring the local environment and completing work around how our local community could be improved.

At the opposite end of the school the children in Reception have chosen the RSPCA for their charity. They are going to raise money through a sponsored obstacle race and are asking for donations to a pet food bank. They are going to be making and selling pet treats and will be taking part in a community litter pick.

As we are a partner school with Aston Villa they have promised to donate rewards for the children and class that raise the most money. We have also had promises of donations from other local businesses.

At the heart of this project is our desire to help ‘rebuild’ our children after Covid, too. We have a systematic plan of skill development that is tailored to the needs we feel have developed over the lockdowns. These real-life, practical experiences give us the chance to put fun at the heart of our Covid Recovery Plan.

We would really value your support with this event so that we can raise lots of money for the charities chosen by the children.

  • Voting and Training Day

Wed 10 Mar 2021 Mrs Rudd
The school is being used for voting on 6th May and therefore staff and children will not be allowed into school on that day. We have decided to take 7th May as a training day so that the children are not in just for one day so the school will also be closed to children on this day.
  • Information about an incident near St Marys C of E Primary School

Tue 09 Mar 2021 Mrs Rudd

    Dear Parents

I have been asked to let you know about an incident which happened near St Marys Primary School, Selly Oak last week. See below:

'I wanted to alert your school to an incident which took place last Friday morning that we have been made aware of this morning.

An unknown male approached one of our pupils on Lodge Hill Road before the start of school last Friday (5th March) at approximately 8.30am. He was driving a company van that was predominantly white in colour, unfortunately the child cannot remember much more about this vehicle.

The incident has been reported to the police this morning but I wanted to alert schools local to here so they are able to use this information as they wish.'

Can you please remind your children about not talking to strangers and about reporting any incidents to you and the school. Thank you.

  • Welcome Back Everyone

Mon 08 Mar 2021 Mrs Rudd

    Welcome Back Everyone

It was lovely to see all the smiling faces of our children this morning. There has been a wonderful buzz in school this morning, with lots of excited children. We have also welcomed some new children to school today.

Thank you to parents for everything you have done over the last few months and to staff for their hard work. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that we will be back to normal now and that there will be no future closures.

There have been one or two changes in our staff over the last few months. Miss Linden has started her maternity leave therefore Mrs Hoye and a new teacher called Mrs Abbatt Walker will be teaching in Year 2. Mr Murphy has left the school and we will have a new site manager starting in April called Mr Blythe. Mrs McHale, who was on maternity leave, has decide she wants to stay at home with her children so will not be returning as expected. Her Friday in Year 4 is being covered by Miss South at the moment and will be covered by Miss James in April.

If you have any questions about any of the above please get in touch through the school office.

  • Back to school

Mon 22 Feb 2021 Mrs Rudd

The Government has announced that schools will reopen to all pupils on the 8th March. We are all really pleased that we can welcome you all back.

The arrangements will be the same as when the children came back in the autumn term. We will have staggered start, end and break times and the children will stay in their class ‘bubbles’ during the day. Full details of this is available on our Covid page.

We continue to review all risk assessments regularly. Our most current risk assessment is available on our Covid page.

We are happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have that are not answered on our Covid page. You can send your questions via our enquiry email and they will be answered promptly by a member of staff.

  • Another half term of lockdown over

Fri 12 Feb 2021 Mrs Rudd

Well we have reached the end of yet another half term of lockdown and looking back over this academic year it is wonderful how much has been achieved by staff, pupils , governors and parents.

Despite the difficulties, the smiles on the children's faces are a reminder of why we do this and why we care that everything is done to the best of our ability.

This morning I did a shout out to all the staff for everything they do and for going above and beyond. I would also like to give a shout out to parents for working with us, struggling to manage home learning, battling with IT, attempting to learn alongside the children so that you can support their learning and for doing all this whilst trying to live as normal a life as is possible at this time. Well done all of you.

Well done to all of our pupils, you are amazing, we miss you very much and we cant wait till the lockdown is over and you are all back with us. The children who have been attending school have also been amazing, they  have been trying so hard to develop their learning in very different circumstances.

I am so proud of you all.

Have a lovely half term break everyone, happy Chinese and Korean New Year.

  • Reminders

Fri 05 Feb 2021 Mrs Rudd

Just a quick reminder that our texting service will end in March. After that we will contact you either through the School App or via email. Can you please make sure you have downloaded and registered with 'School App' and that we have a current email so that we can contact you.

Next week we will be sending home brief reports for you to read about how your child is managing with their learning during this difficult time. I am amazed at how brilliant you have all been with getting to grips with home learning whilst still managing to do everything else that you would normally be doing, well done! Give yourselves a pat on the back and celebrate your success.

We have a few events coming up, I have updated the calendar so that you can see what they all are.

Next week is Safer Internet Day and Chinese New Year. Teachers will be planning activities relating to these and on Friday for Chinese New Year we would like you all to send in something related to this special celebration. You could send a photograph of yourself in costume, a painting or a piece of poetry or writing. In school we will make sure that we complete the Dragon Dance so that we chase out any bad luck and welcome in the good. You could do your own Dragon Dance at home. Perhaps we can all chase away Covid so that everyone can return to school!!!

A reminder that school is closed for the half term 15th - 19th February. There will be no live online sessions that week.

  • School Back Open 26th January but no Breakfast Club

Mon 25 Jan 2021 Mrs Rudd

The school will open again tomorrow to those who have been given a critical worker or vulnerable pupil place. However we will have to make sure paths are clear and safe therefore we will not be having our usual breakfast club. We will open the gates at 8.45am for all pupils.

Water Mill Close will be very icy therefore I suggest that you do not try to drive down.

The children will be going into the playground to play in the snow, therefore please send them in with appropriate footwear, gloves, hats and coats.
