    What Your Reception children will need each day

      All Reception Age children are able to have a free school meal or they can bring their own healthy packed lunch.
    Book bags Everyday only books to be carried in them
    After school club Everyday apart from the last day before a holiday To be booked in advance, phone school for details
    Reading Everyday Please read to and encourage your child to read a little each day.
    Drop in sessions Monday 9.10-9.25 Please make an appointment with the office to check staff are available.

    Ways to support your child

    Play games

    Practice writing letter sounds and child’s name.

    Reading with them and sharing stories every night

    Playing games (e.g. board games / card games)

    Take them to the library

    Take them swimming

    Talk to them about what they’ve been doing, what they see around them etc

    Enhance their knowledge and experience by taking them to places of interest like museums, country parks, castles etc.

    Counting with them

    Talk about activities / stories

    Practice writing Childs name.

    Practice getting changed for PE

    Talking with your child:

    Research shows that speaking, listening, and understanding are central to every aspect of our lives. A child’s later educational success stems from their ability to express their needs, learn how the world works, and communicate with others. The website show short, simple videos, such as when to introduce new vocabulary or how to have an engaging back-and-forth conversation with your child.

    Phonics and early reading

    Reading is a vital life skill. Children who are regularly read stories and rhymes will have the opportunity to open the doors to many different worlds. More importantly, reading will give your child the tools to become independent, lifelong learners. At school, we follow the Little Wandle programme to help children learn to read fluently. Families can support this by developing a love of books through daily reading and access to a wide range of texts at home, in school, at the local library, and through online resources such as:
