What Your Year 5 children will need each day

Swimming Kit | Wednesday | Your child will be informed when they need their swim kit. They need a bag for their kit, a towel, long hair tied back, no jewellery. Girls need a one piece costume. Boys need short trunks. |
Ways to support your child
Using clocks, telling the time,
Using money, giving/receiving change, how much things cost etc,
Reading every day and discussing what they have read (the plot, the characters, predicting what might happen next etc)
Practice spelling words regularly, spelling test Thursday
Encourage children to use them in sentences/discuss meaning.
Discussion of stories and texts read
Short multiplication – times tables
Playing games (e.g. board games / card games)
Encourage them to play maths games on www.sumdog.com and Purple Mash
Take them to the library
Take them swimming
Practical maths such as cooking for measuring, capacity and volume, gardening for area and perimeter
Enhance their knowledge and experience by taking them to places of interest like museums, country parks, castles etc.
Take them shopping so they can use money
